God's Favorite Method
God's favorite method
It
was deep in printed in my heart at this point and time I believe this was God
telling me what to do, she had to be the first one to celebrate with, after all
if it wasn’t for God enabling her to carry this young lady for nine months,
then I wouldn’t have probably been here today. God put this strongly in my
heart that many are the times that when we celebrate our born day we much less
expect birthday wishes and gifts from others but rarely do we give gifts to God
or others as a show of thanksgiving not to man but unto God. It might be a special seed you plant or give
an offering of thanksgiving unto God, it may be by visiting with the less
privileged just to share God’s love with them or it might be a simple way of
saying thank you to your parents for giving you the opportunity to live,
whichever the case is at least you’ve celebrated someone else apart from
yourself. As for me God just said ‘call her and let her know that you’re
thankful for her being your mother and for giving birth to you’. As you can
imagine this phrase brings tears to my eyes because these words took me down
the memory lane of how Mama has been there for us(her children/my siblings)
single handedly. She ensured that we all went to school even though she only
studied upto lower class three. Mama is the strongest, wisest, bravest,
industrious, intelligent, beautiful, kind, generous, prayerful, joyful,
forgiving, sacrificial and most amazing woman whom words can’t clearly define.
I
made the call at around 8:45am while at work, she picked up after a few dials,
her motherly voice whispered in my ears greeting me good morning, I responded
to the greeting and went straight ahead to tell her how thankful I am for her
giving birth to me on a day like today (International Women’s Day). She was
joyful and glad at the same time. She started singing to me the ‘happy birthday
song’, that was my special moment, my heart leaped inside my chest… literally
speaking, then after she prayed for me…how cool is that, it’s one thing when
someone else prays for you and it’s another when your mum does it, Mama’s
prayers just touches the core J( feeling blessed). Mama once told me
in a conversation we had (in which I did most of asking while she did most
answering) that I was born in the wee hours of the morning in March 8th
1990 (of course I have a birth certificate :-) ). I take all my birthdays
as a beginning of my new beginnings. New leaf of life, new chapter has been
opened and new season is here with me yet again. Well, am grateful to God for
this opportunity, that He has granted me yet another year. I sure don’t know
about you but as for me, life is significant in every aspect. My breathing,
smelling, seeing, hearing and touching isn’t something that am gonna take for
granted. To be alive and healthy today, it has taken the hand of God. The enemy
could have gotten rid of me in a twinkle of an eye but My Daddy didn’t allow
that to happen.
In
my many days on this earth have come to learn few stuff that have impacted my
life; the way I perceive situations, people, and this journey am in. Some I had
to learn in a hard way, others in an easy way either way, have been learning.
Today I will share just one of the lessons I am still learning.
1 God uses PROCESSES as
His METHOD of working
Before
I continue let me mention that in every process, PATIENCE is the KEY engine
that makes the vehicle (you) move.
As
young people we have been brought up in a microwave environment thus the
society has labeled us the ‘microwave generation’ meaning we like it when we
get things done in a flash. Patience is a rare virtue nowadays, if anything
you’ll be labelled as an ‘old fashion’ when you say ‘am waiting for my chance
or am waiting on God’. I am a victim of impatience upto date and each time I
practice impatience, God reminds me that ‘daughter you didn’t wait for My help
in this situation’.
In
Kenya impatience can be seen in the transport industry. Lately, we’ve had an
increase of ‘matatus’ (means public vehicles/ bus used for commercial purposes
to transporting people from one point to another) on our roads, these ‘matatus’
have 3 categories; the first category are the old ones (especially the Nissans)
are meant for people who are going for short distance and those who are in a
hurry or have luggages; the second category is new or moderate new with soft
music, these ones are buses they carry elderly, infants with parents, working
class that don’t like noise or anyone going far (to town) or near and find it
comfortable; third category are the new ones, extremely noisy buses with
thematic artworks all around them, they’re ‘pimped’ with unique chairs, big
screen, carpet, water dispenser (on some) and loud, latest, mostly secular
youthful music. Their customers or rather target is young people who are either
in school, working or not. These types of vehicles (3rd category)
have been embraced as part of our culture. Many youths love them because
they’re hype, fashionable and most importantly they’re fast. I personally
prefer them on some occasions especially when am getting late. When traffic is
too tight, these specific vehicles have a way of escaping the traffic by either
using other ‘link roads’ or by simply overlapping (it’s a traffic offense that
drivers choose to ignore).
The
after effects of riding in category 3 are in two parts; the negative part and
the positive part, but the negative outweighs the positive. The only positive
is that they are fast, so be assured you’ll get to your destination in good
time. The negatives are as follows; frequent fatal accidents, careless driving,
high increased rate of hit and run and the vehicles don’t last for long on the
roads due to wreckages.
In
reference to the above, we sometimes behave like the 3rd category
type of buses. In that in as much as we are aware of God’s plan for our lives
we still want to have our way in life just because we feel like God’s ways take
too long to come to pass, one part of us is praying ‘God have Your way in my
life’ while yet we have another part saying ‘my own way is fast and the best option’,
it’s more of a Flesh vs Spirit battle in which cases the winner between the two
is normally the one whom you’ve been feeding or rather empowering. The problem
of going with category 3 or the Flesh way is that the implications and
consequences can be dangerous and life threatening. In the process you might
face fatal accidents along the way, relationships between you and other people becomes
sour, conflicts, arguments and loss of direction in life becomes part and
parcel of your lifestyle.
In
as much as the process might be taking too long to be completed, God expects us
to wait patiently, enjoy the process and learn from it. At times the process
might be painful, challenging or even full of disappointments but in the midst
of it all God‘s grace abounds the more. Before
thinking of taking the shortcut that seems so fast, stylish, fashionable and
the in thing, think first, the thing that seems so appealing might not be the
right thing for you. I believe God’s plan for your life according to Jeremiah
29:11 are to give you Hope and Future and not to destroy or harm you in any
way. I believe as Christians we are gold, just like gold that requires fire for it to be
purified, so do we. God has to take us through uncomfortable circumstance so
that we can be pure gold free from impurities. God’s process doesn’t happen overnight,
it can take a month, one year or even a decade, but at the end of it all you’ll
appear as pure as gold.
Am
a process and God is working in my life to make me who He wants me to be. Times
I feel like the process is derailing me behind while my peers are moving ahead,
but God has a way of reminding me that ‘your story is not their story my
daughter’. In this life, learn to trust and be guided by God and not men’s
voices and opinions, because if you cling to the voices of men, you’ll come
tumbling down once they say something negative about you after all they are
mortal here today gone tomorrow. But God is the same yesterday, today and
forever.
In
conclusion allow God’s process to take its course in your life.
God
bless you!
